Indonesian police have refused to issue a concert permit for Lady Gaga's concert planned for the 3rd June in Jakarta.
The Islamic Defenders’ Front threatened to block the show accusing her of promoting Satan worship and homosexuality. A national police spokesman stated that “we made the decision after considering objections from various Muslim groups who deem that Lady Gaga’s stage act is not compatible with our culture.”
The head of the Islamic Defenders’ Front, Rizieq Syihab, told local media that Lady Gaga worshipped the devil and was quoted saying “if Lady Gaga goes ahead with her concert in Indonesia, I will mobilize Muslims in Jakarta to disband it.” They even threatened to intercept the singer at the airport and stop her getting off the plane.
A massive 30,000 tickets have been sold for the show and if it does end up officially cancelled, there will be a huge number of angry 'Little Monsters'.
The Indonesian Lady Gaga fans' Twitter page has been criticising the police and made the point (in English) that “somehow the police person’s statement is irrational. They don’t descriptively point which people who object her concert here.”
In my opinion, fans shouldn't be told who they get to see in concert and who they don't. Those that have a problem with Lady Gaga don't have to see the show, plain and simple. But they shouldn't take the show away from the fans.
Do you agree with the police or do you think they are being unfair?
